HYBOND, their latest offering, is a tokenized corporate bond tied to BNY Investments’ Global Short-Dated High-Yield Bond strategy. Let me translate: it’s a fancy way to say, “Here’s a digital certificate that says you own a piece of someone else’s debt. Now go cry in a corner.”

Qualified investors? Please. If “qualified” means “rich enough to afford a lawyer who can explain this to you,” then yes, you’re in. HYBOND expands the tokenized real-world asset market beyond cash-equivalent strategies-because nothing says “excitement” like turning boring money into slightly less-boring money.

According to rwa.xyz, over $12 billion of the tokenized market is U.S. Treasury debt. I’m not saying it’s a pyramid scheme, but I’m also not saying it isn’t. HYBOND is issued by OpenEden Digital Limited, a Bermuda-regulated entity. If that doesn’t sound like a tax evasion fantasy camp, I don’t know what does.

BNY Investments manages the underlying bonds, but they’ve wisely stayed out of the token itself. Smart move-let someone else take the fall when this turns into a blockchain version of the subprime crisis. Jeremy Ng, OpenEden’s CEO, said tokenization has “proven its product market fit.” I’m assuming “fit” here means “survived long enough to make a press release.”

HYBOND builds on their previous collaboration: TBILL, a tokenized U.S. Treasury bill product. If you thought TBILL was thrilling, wait until you hear about HYBOND. It’s like trading in Monopoly money for Monopoly IOUs. BNY, meanwhile, oversaw $2.2 trillion in assets under management in 2025. That’s enough to buy every latte ever consumed by a Wall Street analyst.
