Ripple’s $1.25 billion Hidden Road acquisition might just turn XRP into the financial powerhouse it’s been pretending to be. Watch out, traditional finance—XRP is coming for you!
XRP Ready to Play the Big League in Ripple’s Hidden Road Prime Brokerage Shuffle
Ripple, once just the kid trying to make it big, just dropped a cool $1.25 billion to acquire Hidden Road, and suddenly XRP has a chance to become the financial tool it always dreamed of. According to Ripple’s Chief Technology Officer, David Schwartz, this is a “game-changer.”
Ripple’s acquisition of Hidden Road is a defining moment for the XRP Ledger and XRP.
Schwartz, ever the visionary, went on to paint an impressive picture on X (yes, that’s still a thing): Imagine Ripple handling over $10B and 50 million transactions a day, settling in just seconds, unlike the 24 hours that traditional systems currently demand. “That’s what Hidden Road plans to do,” Schwartz said, probably smiling smugly behind his screen. “And then, we’ll throw in some tokenized real-world assets on XRPL just for kicks.”
Meanwhile, Brad Garlinghouse, the CEO of Ripple and man with the most expensive hobby in crypto, explained that while $1.25 billion sounds like a lot (because, well, it is), the real gold is in the deal’s ability to merge the stodgy world of traditional finance with the wild, wild west of blockchain. “Prime brokers like Hidden Road? They’re trusted by the big boys,” Garlinghouse said. “We’re talking hedge funds, OTC desks, and all that jazz.” Ripple, having been a client of Hidden Road, is no stranger to its role in facilitating over $3 trillion in transactions annually for the top 300 institutions—no biggie, right?
The XRP Ledger is now being folded into Hidden Road’s operations, and the whole world might be about to change. In his own words, Garlinghouse said:
This is the capital and activity that will tap into XRP and the XRP Ledger’s bread-and-butter – instant, efficient, scalable, and low-cost movement of value.
Not only will XRP Ledger be clearing a portion of Hidden Road’s trades, but it will also deploy RLUSD as collateral in multi-asset trading, merging both digital and traditional markets. If everything goes according to plan (and it probably will, because it’s Ripple), the partnership could see Hidden Road crowned the largest non-bank prime broker in the world. And XRP? It might just become the go-to tool for cross-asset financial settlement. Pretty fancy for a currency that once couldn’t catch a break.
