Scammers Unmasked: CMC Tokens? As Real As Dorian Gray’s Morality-And Just As Dangerous

There is no spectacle quite so amusing-nor so tragic-as watching legions of earnest crypto enthusiasts chased round the digital maze by wicked impersonators. CoinMarketCap, that peculiar modern oracle, has once again interrupted its busy schedule of listing questionable dog tokens to inform the world’s crypto faithful: the “CMC Token” is every bit as genuine as a politician’s promise.

When CMC Chimes In-The Community Pricks Up Its Ears … and Clutches Its Wallets

On their official X account (formerly Twitter, but considerably more pretentious), CoinMarketCap beseeched traders, hodlers and daydreaming speculators to beware the siren song of counterfeit CMC tokens-an invitation to ruin, thinly disguised as an investment opportunity.

In a bold move reminiscent of a Victorian matron at a debutante ball, CoinMarketCap reiterated it possesses no native coin. None. Zilch. The “CMC Token” is as mythical as the perfect crypto chart:

“CoinMarketCap does NOT have a Token/Coin. If you see a promotion for CMC-Tokens, it is a Fake/Scam!”

How quaint. The only tokens CMC offers are those bestowed by reputation-and perhaps a soupçon of snobbery.

SCAM ALERT: CoinMarketCap does NOT have a Token/Coin. If you see a promotion for CMC-Tokens, it is a Fake/Scam! 😱🦄

CMC Channels Its Inner Victorian Butler-With More Warnings, Less Tea

Not content to merely repel fraudulent tokens, CMC went on to instruct the community, in tones which would not be out of place in a particularly dramatic episode of Downton Abbey, to ignore unsolicited advances from impersonators. Crypto traders may dream of riches, but should wake up promptly if anyone phones pretending to be CoinMarketCap-the kind of call that turns portfolios into ghost stories.

The official tweet positively begged, with all the subtlety of Oscar Wilde himself, for the community to “BEWARE of scammers trying to impersonate CoinMarketCap members.” Reader, CMC does not possess a phone number-nor, presumably, the inclination to bother you on a Sunday morning about “limited-time opportunities.”

BEWARE of scammers trying to impersonate CoinMarketCap members. CMC does NOT have a phone-number and we will NEVER call you. When in doubt, always contact CMC-CS for verification!! ☎️😏

Should you be approached by some cunning rascal claiming to be CMC, offering you tokens, phone calls, or, heaven forfend, investment advice, you would do well to contact the CoinMarketCap team for verification. Or, simply laugh uproariously and refuse-with the elegance of Wilde himself-to part with either your dignity or your hard-earned coins. After all, in crypto, as in life, the only thing worse than being scammed is not being warned with enough panache. 🎩💸
