Ripple Tells the SEC to Get in Line – Are We Serious? 😂

So, Ripple responds to the SEC’s big speech — you know, that “New Paradigm” nonsense — with a nice little letter. Because, apparently, the SEC likes to keep us guessing, right? They thank the Crypto Task Force for a meeting that, let’s face it, probably could’ve been handled over a Zoom call, and then proceed to clarify that most tokens, including XRP, aren’t securities. Shocking! 💥

Today, @Ripple dropped another letter on the SEC’s Crypto Task Force, addressing a key question from Peirce’s “New Paradigm” speech: When does a digital asset stop being an investment contract? You know, the questions nobody actually agrees on. We appreciate the engagement, I guess…

Oh, and they threw in some legal analysis from this guy Lewis Cohen — who apparently knows a thing or two — saying that if you sell crypto on the secondary market, it’s probably not a security. Who knew? And, of course, Judge Torres chimed in in 2023, saying trading XRP on exchanges isn’t a security, but selling to institutions? Yeah, that’s a different story.

Then Ripple blasts the SEC’s vague standards — “fully functional,” “sufficiently decentralized,” — as if anyone actually understands what those words mean. They say, “Hey Congress, should decide this, not you guys,” probably because regulators have a way of overcomplicating stuff. Thanks for the clarity, guys! 🙄

Ripple’s big idea? If a token was once part of an investment contract, it’s probably no longer one once all the promises are fulfilled and the buyer has no rights. Wow, groundbreaking! And to keep the innovation train rolling, Ripple suggests a “safe harbor.” Basically, they’re saying, “Trust us, we know what we’re doing,” based on how mature the network is, not whether it’s “decentralized” enough for the SEC’s taste. Because, sure, that *totally* makes sense. 🚂

So, with this letter, Ripple’s basically telling the SEC, “Come on, guys, get with the program! Let’s have clear rules so we can all stop pretending we understand what’s happening.” Yeah, good luck with that.
