So, it turns out that being a crypto entrepreneur can be super lucrative – not just for you, but also for the people who want to kidnap you and chop off your fingers for ransom. Yeah, that’s a thing now. 🤯

According to some GitHub list (because, of course, there’s a GitHub list for this), there have been almost 30 in-person crypto attacks so far in 2025. And we’re not even halfway through the year yet! 📆

One poor guy in France was held captive for days, and his kidnappers demanded a whopping 7 million euros ($8 million) in ransom. They even cut off one of his fingers to show they meant business. Because, you know, a simple “please pay us” note just wouldn’t cut it. 😂

Luckily, the police raided the place and freed the guy, arresting five people in the process. And in a surprising twist, they even caught one of the masterminds behind the kidnapping in Morocco! 🌴

Now, you’d think that crypto firms would be all like, “Oh no, we need to do something about this!” And, well, they are. They’re boosting their security measures and stuff. But let’s be real, it’s not like they’re going to start handing out free bodyguards to all their employees or anything. 🤣

One expert (because, of course, there are experts on this) said that many crypto users lack basic situational awareness at events. Which is just a fancy way of saying, “Hey, guys, be aware of your surroundings and don’t be a idiot.” 🙄

And in a shocking revelation, a University of Cambridge study found that victims of these “wrench attacks” (because, of course, there’s a name for this) often don’t report them because they’re worried about being targeted again or being shamed publicly. Who knew? 🤷‍♀️

So, what’s the takeaway from all this? Well, if you’re a crypto entrepreneur, you should probably invest in some good security measures. And maybe a few bodyguards. And a panic room. And a finger-replacement insurance policy. 🤑
