As a researcher following the Ethereum ecosystem, I’ve confirmed that the Ethereum Foundation is now converting 5,000 ETH into DAI stablecoins. This is a significant move for the organization behind the second-largest cryptocurrency, and we’re watching to see how it impacts the market.
The organization says this transaction is happening because of a new financial plan. This plan is designed to guarantee continued funding for its research and charitable work.
The Ethereum Foundation is exchanging 5000 ETH for stablecoins today using CoWSwap’s TWAP feature. This is part of our continued effort to support research and development, grants, and charitable donations.

Ethereum Foundation activates new treasury model
I heard the foundation is selling their tokens using a TWAP – basically, it averages out the price over time through CowSwap. It’s a smart move to avoid big price swings and prevent anyone from trying to manipulate things based on when the sales happen. Apparently, even Vitalik Buterin uses CowSwap himself, which gives me some extra confidence in their approach.
This sale isn’t a sudden decision; it’s a planned step outlined in the updated Treasury Policy Foundation, which was introduced in June 2025. Here are the main components of that plan:

- Maintaining a stablecoin liquidity reserve covering 2.5 years of operating expenses.
- Reducing annual spending from the current 15% to 5% of the total treasury by 2030.
- Increasing the share of staking, with a target of 70,000 ETH — a level that was reached earlier this spring — aimed at funding grants exclusively through network rewards from staked Ethereum.
According to Arkham data, the foundation currently has about $290 million worth of assets in its public wallets. Of that amount, $225.7 million is in Ethereum tokens – specifically, 102,377 ETH as of today.

As the foundation distributes its developer grants, the total amount of assets it holds will decrease, and the proportion of Ethereum within that portfolio will naturally shrink.
