Elon Musk’s New Hire Sparks Talk of Crypto Integration on X

X, the social media platform owned by Elon Musk, has hired Benji Taylor to lead its design team. Taylor previously worked at Aave Labs and with Coinbase’s Base network.

Taylor started Los Feliz Engineering, which was then bought by Aave Labs in 2023. Aave Labs is the team that created Aave, a popular lending platform in the world of Decentralized Finance (DeFi).

Taylor held leadership roles in product and design at Aave Labs, ultimately serving as Chief Product Officer until October 2025. Most recently, he spent the last six months leading design efforts at Coinbase’s Base.

Taylor announced they are thrilled to join X as the new head of design. They expressed their belief that X is a crucial global platform and a fantastic place to contribute to its future development.

Nikita Bier, Head of Product at X, said it took about six months to convince the designer to join the team. Now that the designer is on board, Bier shared plans to create what he believes will be the best design team in the industry.

I first met Benji six years ago after investing in his app. I was immediately impressed by its design – it was one of the best I’d ever seen. I quickly realized he had the potential to become a world-class designer, he explained.

As an analyst, I’ve been following Taylor’s recent appointment with a lot of interest. The buzz in the market is that bringing him on board suggests the company might be planning to integrate cryptocurrency in some way. It’s definitely something we’re watching closely.
