Tinder, the popular dating app, will pay millions of dollars to resolve a lawsuit that claimed it unfairly charged older users more for its services.
Tinder will pay $60.5 million to resolve claims that it unfairly charged older users in California more for its services, according to an update on the website for the settlement administrator.
A lawsuit filed in May 2015 claimed that Tinder illegally charged older users more than younger users, breaking California state laws.
After legal and administrative expenses are paid, approximately $39.72 million will be distributed to Tinder users impacted by the issue over the past four years.
If you paid for Tinder Plus or Tinder Gold in California between March 2, 2015, and February 10, 2019, and you were either over 29 (between March 2, 2015, and March 2, 2016) or over 28 (after March 2, 2016), you might be part of a class action lawsuit.
Each person included in the settlement will receive a payment calculated by dividing the total settlement money by the number of people submitting claims. The exact amount will also depend on how much each person originally paid for a Tinder Gold or Tinder Plus subscription.
If you’re eligible for payment, you need to let the settlement administrator know how you’d like to receive it by August 18th.
The final approval hearing will be held on May 20th.
Even though a settlement has been reached, the lawsuit remains undecided – the court hasn’t ruled for either Tinder or the people who filed the suit.
