Concordium is now the official AI partner for the Danish national ice hockey team, thanks to a new agreement with the Danish Ice Hockey Federation (DIU). The partnership will kick off at the 2026 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship in Switzerland.
This collaboration focuses on two main projects leveraging Concordium’s AI technology. First, a Verified Fan Programme will test a new way to connect with fans while protecting their privacy using advanced encryption. Second, an agent-based commerce project will showcase how AI assistants can handle large numbers of fan interactions and purchases.
This partnership expands on Concordium’s existing efforts to integrate AI into payment systems, particularly their work with the x402 agentic payments protocol.
According to Varun Kabra, Chief Growth Officer at Concordium, businesses handling large volumes of transactions require secure and verifiable digital identities, as well as reliable payment systems. He explains that the necessary technology is already available, but it needs to be more accessible and understandable for wider audiences. Concordium is partnering with the Danish Ice Hockey team to develop a solution using AI to significantly improve the fan experience.
Danmarks Ishockey Union (DIU) CEO Michael Dupont emphasized that their new agreement with Concordium prioritizes tangible results over just brand visibility. “We focused on what we could *create* together, not just what logos would appear on jerseys,” Dupont explained. Concordium provides a secure and officially compliant AI infrastructure, and the planned initiatives align with the image Danish hockey aims to project.
I’m excited to share that Concordium has partnered with the Danish national team! Our branding will be featured on their helmets and jerseys, and we have exclusive rights in the digital assets space for the partnership’s duration. What’s particularly innovative is how we’ve structured the payment: the entire fee was settled in CCD, our native token. This marks the first time a national team agreement has been fully paid and secured using a protocol-native asset. We completed the transaction directly on the blockchain when we signed the agreement, and the CCD is locked up for 12 months, all held securely by DIU.
Denmark’s games at the 2026 IIHF World Championship will be shown on TV in several countries, including Sweden, Finland, Germany, Switzerland, Canada, and the United States. Broadcasters like Viaplay, ZDF, ARD, TSN, and ESPN will carry the coverage. Last year’s tournament reached a huge audience, with 215 million people watching on TV and a total of 25.6 billion impressions across 155 countries.
