A Few Pertinent Points, Darling:
- Franck Muller, bless their cotton socks, has launched a “phygital” bauble linked to Solana. How frightfully modern!
- Each timepiece comes with a QR code, ever so discreetly personalized with the buyerβs Solana wallet. For ease of access, naturally.
- The timing, alas, is a tad unfortunate, what with crypto enthusiasts becoming targets for unsavory types. Bit awkward, that.
If you’ve ever yearned to flaunt your Solana wallet on your wrist whilst simultaneously telegraphing your wealth to the masses, Franck Muller, that most Swiss of watchmakers, is here to oblige. Because nothing says subtle like a QR code on a luxury watch. π
The watch market, never one to miss a trend, is sashaying into the Web3 ecosystem with a Solana-inspired, limited-edition series. Each watch boasts an embedded QR code, linking directly to the userβs Solana address. One can only imagine the dinner party conversations. π
This Solana-inspired collection is limited to a mere 1,111 units, setting buyers back a trifling 20,000 Swiss francs (around $24,300). A steal, wouldn’t you say? Just don’t misplace it. π¬
While the watches undoubtedly possess a certain je ne sais quoi that might appeal to the Solana set, their launch coincides with a rather inconvenient trend: flaunting one’s crypto-related wealth is becoming, shall we say, a tad risky. So chic, yet so perilous. π±
The cryptocurrency industry has witnessed a veritable parade of physical attacks this year alone. One particularly grim episode involved the daughter and grandson of Pierre Noizat, CEO of crypto platform Paymium, who were targeted in a daytime attempted kidnapping. All captured on film, naturally. For posterity. π¬
While that particular kidnapping attempt proved unsuccessful, an earlier incident in the same city saw the father of a crypto millionaire abducted. Police managed to rescue the chap, but not before he had a finger or two removed. One does hate to think of the manicure bills. π
Earlier this year, the co-founder of hardware wallet maker Ledger, David Balland, along with his wife, were abducted from their home and subjected to similar unpleasantries. The couple were eventually rescued, and a ransom that had been paid out was recovered. All’s well that ends well, I suppose. π€
And there have been countless other such incidents in recent months. It’s becoming quite the trend, really. π€¦ββοΈ
Franck Muller is touting the collection as a “phygital” symbol of identity and ownership in the crypto age. While the watch is, indeed, a piece of crypto mythos, it may be a collectible that investors might prefer to keep under lock and key. After all, discretion is the better part of valor… and avoiding kidnapping. π
