Sui blockchain stalls again, SUI sinks 8%

Sui blockchain stalled on May 28, halting block production and sending the SUI token down 8%.

Summary

 • Sui blockchain stopped producing blocks on May 28, its second major stall in five months.
 • The core team confirmed a network stall and paused transactions while deploying a fix.
 • The SUI token fell roughly 8% as block finality halted across the network’s dApps.

On May 28th, the Sui blockchain experienced a temporary outage, stopping new blocks from being added to the network. Following this disruption, the price of the SUI token fell by approximately 8%.

This is the second time in five months that the Sui blockchain has experienced a significant disruption. The team announced a network issue was halting transactions, but they assured users their funds were safe while engineers worked to fix the problem.

The Sui network is currently paused due to a technical issue. The team at Sui Core is working to fix it. You may not be able to complete transactions right now, and we’ll share more information as soon as we have it.

What happened to the Sui network

As a crypto investor, I was pretty worried earlier when transactions seemed to freeze up. It looked like the network wasn’t confirming anything for almost an hour, which meant my dApp transactions weren’t going through. Luckily, the engineers quickly figured out what was happening – about 20 minutes, they said – and started pushing out a solution. It was a bit nerve-wracking, but thankfully they seemed to get on top of it fast.

The Sui network is temporarily paused due to a technical issue. The team at Sui Core is working to fix it, so transactions may be delayed or unavailable right now.

This disruption comes after a six-hour pause in January, which crypto.news detailed as being caused by a software error affecting how transactions were verified. Importantly, user funds were not at risk during that outage.

Why Sui keeps stalling

Sui is designed to handle a large number of transactions quickly, but occasional issues with how its validators work together have caused concerns about its stability. In November 2024, the network experienced its first significant outage since launching in 2023, lasting for two hours.

These interruptions are happening at a sensitive time. SUI was already performing near its lowest levels in months, especially after the network was impacted by the $223 million Cetus Protocol hack last year.

A thorough review will probably be conducted to determine what went wrong and how to prevent similar issues in the future, just as Sui has done after past incidents.
