California’s Crypto Crush 🤑

I’ve always thought of California as the cool aunt of the United States – you know, the one who shows up to family gatherings in a Tesla, talking about auras and essential oils. But it seems like Aunt California has a new crush: cryptocurrency. Specifically, she’s got her eyes on Coinbase and Ripple.

Apparently, the California Breakthrough Project is a thing now, and its goals are… well, let’s just say they’re still figuring that out. But hey, they’ve already had a meeting in San Francisco, so that’s a start, right? 🤷‍♀️

It seems like the project is trying to do what Elon Musk’s D.O.G.E. did, but without the whole “being led by Elon Musk” thing. Governor Gavin Newsom is all about it, saying things like:

“The Golden State continues to lead in efficiency, strategically implementing technologies and practices that make Californians’ lives better. As the birthplace of modern tech, our state is uniquely positioned to bring the best and the brightest together to advance our work. We will not shy away from progress, but embrace it for the benefit of all Californians, including our state workforce.”

Sounds like a real party, Gavin. But what does it all mean? Essentially, California is trying to use Web3 and blockchain technology to make government more efficient. And they’re teaming up with Coinbase, Ripple, and other big players in the tech industry to make it happen.

But here’s the thing: some people might not be too thrilled about California’s new crypto friends. I mean, Coinbase has been buddies with President Trump in the past, and that’s not exactly a winning combination for Democratic voters. 🤦‍♀️

And then there’s the whole D.O.G.E. thing. Let’s just say it wasn’t exactly a wild success. So, how will California’s Breakthrough Initiative be any different? 🤔

Only time will tell, but for now, it’s fun to imagine Aunt California trying to explain blockchain to her fellow politicians. 🤣

Oh, and one more thing: San Francisco’s mayor just partnered with OpenAI to explore government efficiency, and people are already throwing shade:

These circles are so small. Especially with Lurie and the Trump admin.

This is from January, peak Lurie transition, Sam Altman doing the same stuff with Trump, with Larry Ellison, Daniel Lurie’s childhood nextdoor neighbor.

Yeah, it’s a real tangled web of tech and politics. But hey, at least it’s interesting. 🤷‍♀️
