“The goal of the guaranteed income program is to support young people along their journey out of homelessness by providing flexible, reliable income alongside wraparound services.” Translation? “Here’s some money, kiddo, go fix your life – no questions asked!”

Picture this: 60 brave young New Yorkers, aged 18 to 24, chosen from the noble ranks of shelter-dwellers, will get a monthly cash fistful of $1,200 for nine months, plus a one-time bounty of $5,000 – handy for those emergencies or just a nice dinner, your choice.

“Once enrolled in the program, they will receive a monthly cash assistance stipend of $1,200 for nine months, and a one-time payment of $5,000, accessible at any point during the first nine months of the 12-month program.” That’s right, free money! Because who doesn’t need a little financial magic to turn things around?

This sweet deal is cooked up through a partnership between City Hall and Covenant House New York – apparently the city’s way of saying, “Hey kid, here’s a lifeline, take it!”

And wait, it gets better. Not long ago, NYC also rolled out a different kind of ‘free money’ parade for expectant women on the brink of motherhood. They threw in $3 million, because apparently, more cash makes everything better, and promised a shiny, no-strings-attached monthly income for 36 months for 161 women craving a break from housing troubles.
