In the grand tradition of “things you never thought would arrive in your mailbox,” scammers masquerading as Ledger (yes, the hardware wallet folks, not a new brand of cheese) have taken to sending actual, physical letters to crypto holders. These missives, delivered by the venerable United States Postal Service—because apparently email scams are so last century—urge recipients to “validate” their wallets or face the horror of losing access to their precious digital loot. 🦹♂️📬
BitGo CEO Mike Belshe, who presumably checks his mail with tongs these days, shared a photo of this dubious letter. It comes complete with a QR code, which almost certainly leads to a website less secure than a chocolate teapot. The letter’s journey through USPS proves that even in the age of blockchain, snail mail can still deliver a good old-fashioned scam right to your door.
“These are all scams do not fall for any of these,” warned Troy Lindsey, who received one of these letters and lived to tweet about it. If only all warnings came with such clarity—and fewer QR codes.

On May 15, Coinbase revealed it had been targeted by ransom-seeking ne’er-do-wells after some customer service contractors (now ex-contractors, one assumes) leaked user data to threat actors. The scammers demanded $20 million, which Coinbase declined—presumably because they needed that money for more important things, like coffee and server maintenance.
The stolen data included names, addresses, contact info, and a smattering of other sensitive details belonging to a select group of Coinbase customers. Thankfully, no private keys or login credentials were compromised—so your crypto is safe, unless you keep your password on a sticky note labeled “password.”
TechCrunch founder Michael Arrington was less than impressed with Coinbase’s security measures, warning that such leaks could lead to physical violence against customers. Because nothing says “welcome to the future” like worrying about both hackers and hooligans at your door.
