Oh, darling, grab your popcorn because the crypto world has just served us another hot mess! Gravity Bridge, the fancy Ethereum-Cosmos link, has lost a cool $5.4 million in a Saturday morning heist that’s more dramatic than a Bridget Jones diary entry. Security researchers are pointing fingers at a possible signing key compromise – because who doesn’t love a good old-fashioned key mix-up?
- Gravity Bridge is down $5.4 million after security sleuths noticed some shady withdrawals tied to a signing-key oopsie.
- PeckShield spilled the tea: USDC, wrapped ether, USDT, and PAXG were swiped, with some funds taking a detour through ChangeNow and Binance.
- The Gravity team hit the panic button, halting the bridge and telling validators to take a breather while they figure out this crypto soap opera.
On-chain analyst Specter was the first to shout, “Something’s fishy!” claiming the bridge’s signing keys might’ve been compromised – not the smart contract code, thank goodness. PeckShield chimed in with a similar “Yep, that’s a mess” and shared a breakdown of the stolen goodies.
#PeckShieldAlert The @gravity_bridge has been drained of ~$5.4M, including $4.3M $USDC, 274 $ETH (~$553K), $434K $USDT & 14.164 $PAYG ($64K). The hacker’s on a shopping spree, laundering funds through #ChangeNow & #Binance, and still holding 2.102K $ETH (~$4.23M).

Gravity Bridge Hits Pause Button After Crypto Oopsie
According to PeckShield, the loot included $4.3 million in USDC, 274 wrapped ether worth $553,000, $434,000 in USDT, and 14.16 PAXG valued at $64,000. All this ended up in a wallet with the address ending in 7C62da1F9 – because who doesn’t love a good cryptic address?
Specter, the crypto detective, identified the affected contract as an address ending in 1F2D906. Apparently, the transaction pattern screamed “unauthorized withdrawals” rather than a direct exploit. Classic case of “Who left the keys in the car?”
Looks like @gravity_bridge’s bridge contract key got a makeover it didn’t ask for, resulting in a $5.4M theft.
The loot:
USDC: $4.3M
WETH: 274 ETH (~$553K)
USDT: $434K
PAYG: $64KThief’s wallet: 0x7B582033061b96cC3F9421e73a749ED7C62da1F9…

The Gravity team finally broke their silence on X, asking validators to hit pause while they investigate. In another update, they confirmed the bridge was on a forced vacation.
Uh-oh, something went wrong at Gravity. Validators, hit the brakes while we figure this out!

Researchers Blame the Authorization Layer – Shocking!
Gravity Bridge, the matchmaker between Ethereum and Cosmos, locks assets on Ethereum and mints mirrored tokens on Cosmos. Validator signatures are supposed to keep things legit, but apparently, someone forgot to read the rulebook.
Specter’s early guess? An attacker with enough signing keys made the withdrawals look like a legit spa day. PeckShield focused on the stolen funds and their wild journey post-heist.
The Gravity team hasn’t dropped a postmortem yet, so the exact entry point remains a mystery. Their updates are basically, “Yep, it happened. Yep, we’re looking into it.”
Attacker Goes on a Swap Service Shopping Spree
PeckShield spilled that some of the stolen funds took a tour through ChangeNow and Binance. Oh, and the thief’s wallet still had 2,100 ETH (~$4.23 million) chilling when PeckShield checked in.
Specter shared a wallet snapshot via Arkham, showing a related address holding $4.16 million in ether. Investigators are on the case, tracking funds like they’re paparazzi chasing a celeb.
Gravity Bridge, built by the Althea team and secured by the GRAV token, hasn’t explained if it was validator infrastructure, private keys, or just a bad day that led to this mess.
If the early gossip is true, Gravity Bridge joins the 2026 club of bridge attacks where key-management fails take center stage. Kelp DAO and Resolv had similar drama earlier this year – because who doesn’t love a good sequel?
TRM Labs reminds us that bridge attacks are still the crypto world’s favorite nightmare, causing major losses in 2026. Gravity’s $5.4M loss is small potatoes compared to the $190 million Nomad exploit in 2022 or the $81.5 million Orbit Bridge hack in 2024.
