JUST IN: White House Bitcoin Reserve Announcement Coming ‘Within Weeks’

White House Says Bitcoin Reserve Announcement Coming in Weeks

In the next few weeks, the White House plans to reveal more information about the US Strategic Bitcoin Reserve, as shared by Patrick Witt, a leading digital assets advisor at the White House.

At the Consensus Miami conference on Wednesday, Witt stated the administration has quietly made significant headway regarding the digital asset reserve and its overall holdings. He indicated the upcoming announcement will detail their future plans.

Breaking news: Sources within the Trump White House have confirmed an announcement regarding a strategic Bitcoin reserve is expected “within weeks.” They report “tremendous progress” has been made, suggesting the United States is increasing its Bitcoin holdings. Many believe it’s only a matter of time before a larger investment is made.

US Bitcoin Reserve Plan is Coming Together

These statements suggest the Trump administration is now putting its plans into action, following the creation of the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve earlier this year. They’ve moved beyond just planning and are now focused on making things happen.

Witt explained that a security flaw was discovered regarding some Bitcoin previously held by the US Marshals. They began developing the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve – a digital asset stockpile – without initially considering this vulnerability, but quickly realized the importance of strong security measures.

Witt seemed to be talking about the reported theft of $46 million from cryptocurrency wallets belonging to the US Marshals Service. This issue came to light earlier this year and resulted in the arrest of John Daghita in March, in Saint Martin.

This situation highlights concerns about the security of digital assets held by federal agencies, especially as the White House plans to create a Bitcoin reserve.

John Daghita, also known as ‘Lick,’ was arrested in the Caribbean yesterday thanks to my investigation. Back in late January 2026, I revealed that John had stolen over $46 million in cryptocurrency seized by the U.S. government. He was able to do this by misusing his access at CMDSS, a company owned by his father that had a contract with the U.S. Marshals Service.

He explained that the event highlighted the reason President Trump directed government agencies to pay closer attention to digital assets.

Digital asset custody presents unique challenges,” Witt explained. “We’ve been working hard on solutions, and we’ll share our plans in the next few weeks.

Lots of Behind-the-Scene Operations for Trump’s Strategic Bitcoin Reserve

In March 2025, a new order was issued to create the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve. Instead of selling Bitcoin seized by the government, it will now be held as a financial reserve.

The order also established a dedicated US Digital Asset Stockpile to hold cryptocurrencies seized in legal cases. It directed federal agencies to keep track of their digital assets and figure out the best way to handle, protect, and transfer them.

The reserve isn’t currently a complete savings plan. Officials have stated that any future purchases of Bitcoin must be funded within the existing budget, without needing additional money from taxpayers.

Several questions remain unanswered. It’s still unclear if the US government will only keep the Bitcoin it has already seized, or if it plans to obtain more in the future.

The plan also doesn’t explain who will be responsible for managing the assets, how those assets will be checked to ensure accountability, or the process for transferring them from law enforcement to the reserve.

Witt’s remarks suggest custody and security are now central to the next phase.

The upcoming announcement could tell markets whether the reserve will continue to be used simply for managing assets, or if it will evolve into a wider plan for the country to use Bitcoin.
