The President announced on social media that the Navy will immediately begin blocking any ships attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.
The president acted after Vice President J.D. Vance announced late Saturday that talks between U.S. and Iranian negotiators had broken down. The two sides met over the weekend in Pakistan but couldn’t reach an agreement to extend the ceasefire.
Bitcoin traded above $73,000 for much of Saturday, but dropped to around $71,500 after comments made by Vance. Since President Trump announced the blockade, the price has fallen further to $70,900, putting it down 2.5% over the last day.
