Florida Investigates ChatGPT’s Role in FSU Mass Shooting After Shocking Chat Logs Revealed

Florida Launches Investigation Into ChatGPT On University Mass Shooting

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier has launched an official investigation into OpenAI, claiming that its ChatGPT technology played a role in the planned 2025 shooting at Florida State University.

Investigators are looking into recent court documents that reveal the person suspected of the shooting had over 270 conversations with ChatGPT before the incident.

What the ChatGPT Logs Revealed

On April 17, 2025, Phoenix Ikner is accused of shooting people at the Florida State University Student Union, resulting in two deaths and six injuries.

According to chat logs reviewed by the State Attorney’s office, Ikner used ChatGPT to ask questions about guns, how busy the campus was, and what happened to past mass shooters just hours before the shooting.

The family of Robert Morales, who died tragically, intends to sue OpenAI, claiming wrongful death. Additionally, the Uthmeier’s office has announced they will be issuing subpoenas related to the case.

We’ve begun an investigation into OpenAI and ChatGPT. Our goal is to ensure artificial intelligence benefits humanity, not causes harm. We’re seeking information about OpenAI’s actions that have negatively impacted children, put Americans at risk, and potentially contributed to the recent shooting at Florida State University. Those responsible for wrongdoing need to be held accountable.

AI Tokens React as Scrutiny Grows

The overall market value of cryptocurrencies related to Artificial Intelligence (AI) decreased by 0.9%, reaching $22.5 billion, according to CoinGecko. Tokens focused on AI Agents saw a 2% decline, and DeFAI tokens dropped by 1.7%.

Despite the overall market downturn, Worldcoin (WLD), a token created with Sam Altman of OpenAI, actually increased in value by 3% on Binance. It was trading around $0.26, with $1.53 million worth of the token changing hands. However, WLD is still down significantly – about 97% – from its peak price of $11.74.

This investigation increases the legal challenges facing OpenAI, especially as the company is likely getting ready to become publicly traded.

The future of WLD and other AI-related cryptocurrencies could hinge on how strongly the authorities pursue their investigation. It’s unclear if this probe will lead to wider price drops for AI tokens, or if WLD will continue to perform differently from the rest of the market.
