What Builders Are Actually Trying to Build (If They Dare)

MoonPay announced in the most dramatic X post imaginable that both MoonPay and Ripple are hunting for brave souls to wrestle with Agentic Payments, Agentic Commerce, Wallets, Identity, Guardrails, and Settlement Infrastructure. Basically, anything that jingles, sings, or shakes when an x402, RLUSD, or XRP Ledger wanders by.

The hackathon rides atop MoonPay’s freshly minted Open Wallet Standard (OWS), a mysterious contraption launched March 23. It promises AI agents a safe, secret vault to hold coins, sign transactions, and pay across blockchains, without ever peeking at a private key. Ripple is part of a merry band of over 15 contributors, including PayPal, OKX, Tron, TON Foundation, Solana, Ethereum, and a few more who probably wear capes on weekends.

MoonPay CEO Ivan Soto-Wright basically said: “Agents have payment rails, but no wallet standard. So we built one, threw it open, and voilà! The full stack exists.” Boom. Mic drop. End scene.

XRPL and RLUSD: The Heavyweight Settlement Duo

The XRPL tracks are serious business. OWS can whip up XRP Ledger accounts from a single seed phrase, like magic beans sprouting digital money. When an x402 payment request sneaks in, OWS uses a policy engine to check spending limits before touching any keys. No fingers, no fuss, pure wizardry.

The x402 connection is now the talk of the town. It’s cozy with Linux Foundation, Amazon Web Services, Google, Microsoft, Visa, Mastercard, and Stripe-basically everyone who throws money around on the internet. RLUSD, Ripple’s stablecoin, sits patiently in the settlement pipeline like a polite but formidable bouncer.

Settlement infrastructure is where RLUSD shines. AI agents on OWS can hoard RLUSD, get x402 requests for computing or data, and settle on-chain without lifting a single human eyebrow. Everything happens inside the OWS vault-like a top-secret digital candy store.

The Bigger Picture for Brave Builders

The wallet problem OWS solves is gigantic. Previously, each agent framework had its own quirky key management style. No portability. Keys lounging around in environment variables and plaintext files like reckless teenagers at a sleepover. One agent’s wallet? Useless for another.

OWS swoops in heroically: one encrypted vault per user, one interface across eight chain families-EVM, Solana, Bitcoin, TON, Tron, Filecoin, XRP Ledger. Keys encrypted, decrypted only for signatures, wiped instantly. The agent sees nada. Zero. Zilch.

Not everyone is popping confetti though. A Dragonfly exec grimly noted that agentic payments are still in their awkward teenage phase, with x402 handling about a million dollars daily. The cool kids, he warns, are still a few years away.
